What an excellent Website! I was looking everywhere for a "Consumer Reports" of juicers and came across your page -- from real people that live with them day in and day out. I'm torn between a Green Power and Champion. As a novice juicer, I will probably do with Champion and then "trade up" after I've had a chance to live with it for a year or so. Thanks so much for your page!

Very good that there exists a web page about A.T.Hovannessian. You write you don't know whether he is still alive. What I know is that he died in 1990 (age: 92) under mysterious circumstances. This information is in the preface written by Helmut Wandmaker, of the (German) book Raw Eating (Rohkost) of A. T. Hovannessian. I search all available German or English books of him; if somebody knows such, he/she can send me an E-mail.

I just purchased a vitamix machine so I was looking for some recipes. In particular I was looking for a good vegetable soup recipe. I was surprised and pleased to see that there is so much information available. I am having a little difficulty adapting new fruits and vegetables to the recipes in the vitamix cookbook. I called the company and they are sending me additional information. The internet information is also very helpful. Thanks.

good to read your words. my wife and i are in a group of living foods people that is just coalescing here in minnesota. igor and victoria bourenko came through here a year ago and then again recently.they've been 100% raw for three years and travel around the country in a van with sprouts in a cooler which they open up to sunlight 3 hours a day. the local group just had our first potluck and has decided to have one monthly. i'm 90%+ raw and have many all raw days.spiritual will is a big element.what are these cravings and imbalances.possession? being in a room full of living foods people is a mellow vibe.calm,lively,interesting. how odd to think of the mill and the cookstove as detours in human development.how interesting.

everyone may already know this, but i will repeat it,mercury silver fillings must be replaced with non toxic fillings asap-this one thing is the fastest most immediate thing one can do to improve heath 2.sprout all seeds and nuts for real assimilation, and even better, process them into yogurt and cheese-they digest and assimilate 10 times more if fermented 3.study,study study everything on living foods 4.start a living foods support group/weekly sunday potluck gatherings 5.buy tropical land before there is none left-build the future 6.do what feels right-but be forwarned this path requires extreme self analysis--all your stuff whatever it is will most definitly come up to the surface on living foods-in other words meditate and center yourself 7.each of you must be a leader/networker/grower/gardner-do not let your dreams die-find others that share your vision and live really live a productive life

greetings aloha and blessings I ran a totally raw,sun-baked,essene based vegan restaurant called wind spirit,in tucson arizona on 4th ave. way back in 1980,it may very well have been the first of its kind in he world, and back then was way way ahead of its time.from that we started a community which still exsists(though not strictly raw) called christmas star/wind spirit which is now a land trust-i planted over 300 trees on that land which are still flourishing today-the "family" in tucson also had the first wheatgrass operation called lotus lite-back then it was so new,it is good to see the seeds we all planted take root.I had many revelations and experiences,21 days on grapefruit that was a serious intense high down to my very core,at one point i was drinking 16 ounces a day fresh wheatgrass juice and had a total 3rd eye opening/kundalini experience that completely changed my life, and revealed the truth about sun/blood/clorophyll/life etc.many other things i learned after moving to hawaii for 5 years, living in mango trees, doing fruit,my problem is always trying to find or create the right community and it seems people must totally detox and stabilize on the pure diet before "community" can really "commune in unity" i am interested in discussing communty(raw, organic, living foods etc.) with anyone

Hi,I've been on a semi-raw diet for about a year now. I think that it's the way to go. I use to have a terrible time trying to have a bowel-movement (once a week). Now, it's every morning because I juice first. I stopped eating 'red' meat but I still eat chicken and fish. I've got a ways to go. Anyway, keep it up! Eat healthy!!!Key

I have been eating Living Foods for 1 1/2 years and have healed a very sick body. I have cured myself of Chronic Fatique, high blood pressure, high cholesterol, gout, thyroid, leaky gut and the list goes on. Also, I had early signs of cancer. Living Foods has given me the answer to weight control. You see I have been overweight all my life. When I started eating living foods I knew I had the answer. Over the last 5 1/2 years I have lost over 135 pounds. I have written a raw foods recipe book, and have submitted the manuscript to a number of publishers.

Great site! I learned just enough tonight to continue my research of eating primarily a raw food diet. Most of the information makes a great deal of sense. I wish more information were widely available and even more important: more accepted. That would make availability of the raw foods easier to come by, especially in a mid-west town

I just read some of your pages and enjoyed them. I wonder if you have published a position regarding genetically engineered foods. I personally desire to avoid them, but it looks like that may eventually be impossible. I have heard dire statements from spiritual-related sources to the effect that - peoples lives will be drastically shortened by eating GE foods - there are planets in the universe that are now dead because of genetic engineering being developed there Peace! Dear Heide Wessels: I just happened across your listing at the BlackByrd's Nest website. I'm interested in holistic health, vegetarianism, energy medicine and green foods, too! I've been a vegetarian since 1/1/75 (New Year's resolution); I have practiced Qi Gong since 1991. Green foods have restored much of the vitality that was drained in a difficult marriage. I take herbs to boost my immune system (echinacea & goldenseal), heal my liver (milk thistle), calm my prostate (saw palmetto) and take the edge off periodic gloom (St. John's wort). Anyway, I just wanted to say hello! Nice to know you're there. Michael Morgan

I truly understand what you are trying to accomplish with this new "Raw Food" diet (style of eating). In todays society the're are many cultures, which all have delicious plates but that are extrealy high in fat. I congratulate you for your accomplishments, our society is starting to realize that a healthy diet leads to a longer life, and they will sooner of later will get to know this new style of eating that you have created. I was the're this past weekend, I was in down town San Francisco looking for a nice place to have a wounderfull healthy dinner, but it is a shame that I did not know about your restaurant, because if I would of known of it, I would definetly had dined the're. I am very spritual but I am also very sick.I realize these two donot go together. Three years ago my husband and I seprated and that is when sickness came upon my body.A herablist I attend church with told me if I would eat all my food raw for at least one year I could cure my self of any sickness. Well 6 months ago my friend moved. After much abuse from doctors with their drugs, which I am sure has done me MUCH HARM. I have decided to try raw.I felt totaly defeated because I thought I can never do this, cause I wont be able to make food interesting enough then I p icked up USA Today and their was your web site Praise the Lord .Help is on the way . Thank you so much for your story and also the warning to start slowly. God Bless you enjoy your life. Wish me luck and health. Shing055 at america online

Great idea but what about the food safety risks? You could educate raw foodies about the safe handling of foods that are not going to be cooked, an important food preparation step that kills harmful bacteria like E. coli 0157, which has been isolated from tomatoes, potatoes, berry fruits and lettuce! Washing foods thoroughly, washing hands before, during and after preparation, avoiding cross-contamination by using clean chopping boards and utensils, and keeping food refrigerated are all important points that you could include on your website.

I have come to see the benefits of raw foods as a dear friend of mine was the assistant chef at Hippocrates in Florida. Many of her really good recipes are still fed to the guests. In Freo Western Australia (WA) we have Manna Wholefoods which is a really good vegetarian shop. The soils in OZ are very depleated and mineral poor. eating organic and raw makes a lot of difference. For myself I take Celtech Blue Green algae and attempt to keep my diet up to 60% raw but it is hard. Besides Biodynamic and organic foods I often get vegies from permaculture friends. Much of their produce is grown using the sediment from composting worm farms and with rock dust. May raw food thrive and prosper. Anthony Temple

i am very interested in a raw foods diet. i am presently a vegan of three years and veggie of six. i eat a diet that is pretty much free of processed foods. raw food is my ideal. it is comforting to know of others who are raw foodists. it was scary when i first went vegan. i knew of no one that was vegan, and i certainly know no one who is a fruitarian. thanks for the insights. : )

Hello! We are currently researching different communities, looking for a place to call home. Your Web page was very interesting to us..we experiment with raw foods and what feels like instinctive eating..and are always open to healthier, more harmonious approaches to our bodies, our relationships and our entire lives. We are organic gardeners, permaculture is simply common sense to us, and we'd love to learn more about it. Recently we spent 2 months on Kauai exploring the possiblities there, but decided to return to the Northwest to a familiar base for awhile. This was largely due to the fact that while on the Garden Isle we made a baby! Now Craig longs to return to the warmth and tropical beauty of the Hawaiian Islands, and I am pondering the best place to nest and give birth. I've been to the Big Island, and would chose that one, before any other in HI., to live on. We are easy going and creative in our own ways, honor others for their uniqueness, and love to be naked and in nature! We may be interested in coming to visit Pangaia...are you open to new members at this time, particularly a pregnant woman and her very supportive partner? I am very healthy and well informed, and intend to have a natural home birth, preferably in warm water,or outdoors by a fire, or some combination of the two. We look forward to hearing from you! Sincerely, Christy & Craig

First giving all Honor to the Holy Creator...I greet you in Peace, Greetings from Jerusalem! I enjoyed some of the information you had. I to enjoy eating live and raw foods. The community here in Israel that I am associated, the Original Hebrew Israelite Nation at Jerusalem, partake in a practice, four times a year of eating only live or raw foods for a seven day period. I would like to learn more about your program.

As an on and off again Natural Hygienist, I sincerely appreciate all those who are faithful to the all raw/mostly raw diet. As I am working to get back to a raw diet, I believe that my "fall from grace" was precipitated by a less than adequate knowledge of how to obtain enough protiens. Any suggestions? John

I found the story of your husband very interesting. In fact my wife is epileptic and has a similar condition to your husband but has been on anti convulsent drugs for 31 years. She is now 33. However the drugs dont work properly and the only time that she is free of blackouts is when she is sick and cannot eat. However, the blackouts return after the reintroduction of food. You may find it quite difficult to contact me as I only use the internet for a couple of hours some nights. However, if you have an aditional info it could be faxed to me at work on (06) 265-3333

Hi Tatiana! My name is Hamish and I'm a 19 year old vegan living in south-eastern Queensland, Australia. I've heard a lot about you and this site... *smiles* All positive, don't worry.. I'm a keen supporter of the Fruitarian Network and well on the way to becoming one myself.. I live a few hours south of Rene Beresford and have had the pleasure of his aquaintance several times. *grin* By the way, I HAVE had black sapote and yes, they are pretty damned nice! Anyhow, I was introduced to the concept of fruitarianism via a long path of dietary enlightenment, beginning with a vaugue mention years ago of the Pritikin diet.. anyhow, one thing led to another, and when you live in the area I do, you tend to hear a lot of weird ideas, so through my mother (Kathe Conover), I heard of fruitarianism and quickly realised how incredibly right the whole idea seemed. It seems to literally be the ultimate diet... for EVERY reason.. the ONLY problem is that decent fruit can be hard to come by in most parts of the worl d. Luckily I don't have that problem. *smile* Anyway, I think your page is great, especially for a first time! I think anyone who promotes this way of life should be supported in any way possible and (hopefully) sometime in the near future, I myself will be finishing a homepage on the net based around various philosophical and other interests, and with your permission, I would love to make a link to your page, under my section on diet, or whatever area you think appropriate. *SMILE* Well, keep up the good work and feel free to write if you ever feel the urge! Best wishes, ~Hamish the Hippie Harlequin~

Really nice page. no, i mean really nice. content, design, everything. i rerely wind up on peoples home pages, and when i do, it's not for more than half a second. somehow, i got to your page while i was looking up information on intentional communities, and after reading your comments on a number of things from triangles to raw food, i was wondering how i got here, and whether or not you have anything to do with intentional communities? anyway, i really just wanted to say that you made me smile.. i was pretty bummed out about life and being so disconnected, and reading your stuff made me feel like maybe there is someone else who understands or is at least trying to understand what the hell we're all doing here? Thanks for cheered me up a bit. e

Great site; my wife & I just visited the Big Island but missed finding you folks... sounds like a marvelous way to live... I've been looking into intentional community for years, having lived in a scaled down version of one years ago here in the Northern Calif. foothills. How is the papaya plantation lifestyle? We took a helicopter ride over the active flow (probably not too far from you!) and were awed at Pele's majesty! Are you concerned about proximity to the active lava? Your instinctive eating & climate seem quite appealing. For the past 3 weeks (since we returned from Hawai'i, all we seem to talk about is moving there! :-) Any suggestions? Thanks for the inspiration!

Really like the "people connections" here. I'm trying to go raw myself but I'm finding much opposition from husband, and mother-in-law (she is a nurse and believes what I'm doing is dangerous). Frankly, how could this be dangerous when I used to spend my days binging on chocolate and colas?

We very much liked the Big Island when we visited about 3 years ago. We have been subscribing to KA'U LANDING in the meantime. I'm interested in progressive ideas which have "found their feet" and being worked out in actual day-to-day. Hawaii seems to be a place where these ideas can settle on or near virgin lavarock and take root. If it's Pele's pleasure, that is. I have been introduced more and more to the appreciaton of bio-energetics (broadly) as the actuality of our existence and participation. James DeMeo's website has many very hands-on resources relating to orgone energy and similarly repressed discoveries. DeMeo's excellent little book, THE ORGONE ACCUMULATOR HANDBOOK, is a great source of practical applications. When we visited Al Cooper in Maui at their self-sufficient farmstead, he remarked in passing how chickens seem somehow to be able to produce calcium. Latter, in DeMeo's book, he cited French experiments establishing that chickens actually TRANSMUTE (alchemy!) silica into calcium: a very great service to Al's rainforest soil. We are being drawn to re-location in the islands, and would like to correspond.

FINALLY - something on the Web about Instinctive Nutrition. Ironically, my wife and I were on the Big Island in the spring of '92, just before our twins were born. We rented a car and circled the Island at least three times. How strange that a short time later I was to read Schaeffer's book. I'm having a horrible time with a baked goods/sugar addiction. I've been struggling with ill health for about 20 years. As I am not the type to suffer from any kind of addiction, I was stunned to discover that I was in fact completely under the control of a cooked food/sugar addiction. I'm in such a state over it that I've seriously been considering flying out my mother-in-law from Toronto so she can help my wife with the kids while I'm healing in France. But I do like the idea of Hawaii again. It's a lot cheaper to fly out from the Wet Coast :) than it is to head half way across the world. Mind you like the red-blooded Canadian that I am I do speak french. Hmmmm. A bientot mes amis Rick Lucertini Vancouver, CANADA< /B>

I think this is a great site. I am starting to give health promoting "cooking" classes/workshops in Washington DC. I am a fan of Ann Wigmore and wheatgrass juice and her philosophy of living. I am also a Reiki Level I practitioner and have taken workshops in energy healing. I would like to have a webpage but am undecided where to list it. It should have a short address rather than at the end of a string and it should be among good holistic URL's. Any advice?

Although it's something I've thought to be true, it's only recently I have come to believe that one ought to give credit and validity to one's intuition and "go with that flow". Right now, I'm beginning to think that this intuition is the "god-power" within each of us. Anyway, I appreciated your article about your water-chestnut experience.

We found our recently purchased book "The Raw Food Diet" to be both informative and inspiring! We are moving toward a completely raw diet with new determination. I was dismayed and astounded however, when I read on page 112 "Politics and economics are the excrement of human thought." Economics is a science based on natural laws. It is a study of the nature of wealth and the laws of it's production and distribution. If interested, you might want to examine our Web pages. I have been teaching this science for many years. Questions and comments welcome! Sincerely, Ben Russell - Council for Economic Inquiry

I want to get out there to visit you guys; it sounds great. It does concern me that you are talking about introducing animals onto the scene, and that you mention animal protein in your diets...I had assumed you were vegan from your emphasis on raw foods. Are you not? I want to suggest that many of the folks who would be drawn to your instinctive eating and raw foods emphasis are also vegan and uncomfortable with animal husbandry...as I am. I still would love to come visit but Hawaii is on the long list. Great Peace, *Spice

Hi Rob - I like the info on the raw times section. I could not hear the music when I went to the main page. It looked like it was playing because the thingies were going up and down but no sound. Not much new here. We had a good time at Yosemite. We ate, ate, ate, hiked, cruised, swam, played ball with the dogs, and watched videos in the tent. Greetings contact me for info on food enzymes in bulk by the pound and capsules i ran a living foods restaurant in 1980 then moved on the land to "dripping springs "christmas star" i am a livig foods expert the full gig but no longer practice for many reasons enzymes allow me to eat dead food and at least digest it winter is one big problem i grew up in chicago old horror nightmare memories on my cellular level still activate when i am cold cant be raw and cold but to those who can stabilize on live food breath pollution and live in a city good luck some people can function well if not better others find city living on live foods to be a "living" nightmare and cant feel right the key is community that is the key to "survival" into the future and natural law is obvious living foods are natural but that gets to the question "is farming natural" how about "refrigeration" how about trucks and shipping its complex isnt it? back in the eighties i lived for 5 years off and on in hawaii searching for the "commu nity and creating several then on to australia and new zealand and back all over america the point is i have worked with literally thousands of people on many levels . FOOD ADDICTION is by far the deepest even deeper than sex drugs music entertainment money power etc FOOD ADDICTION CAN ONLY BE "CURED" BY FASTING, which can be difficult for people on an "essene" path living in this artificial chemical based socity that lives on dead animals sugar caffeine dairy and processed "food" But to those brave lovers of life who will rebuild the civilization as it falls LIVING FOODS ARE THE WAY OF LIFE, HARMONY WITH NATURE AND TRUE PEACE , but now the madness of western civilization is determined to consume the planet untill theres nothing left then they will go to other planets etc. what i am getting at is i hope you can avoid the psycosis of the truth from dragging you down and stay "positive"

High energy enzymes in bulk by the pound $60.00 by the case X6 $240.00 capsules 200 per bottle $25.00 case $16 X12 $192.00 multiple case discounts available these are the enzymes developed by Dr. Edward Howell homozon do it yourself oxidation therapy asunder25.00 A can email me if interested

I am now nearing the time when I'll be able to realize my dream. I hope to be welcomed there as part of your community. I am currently waiting for information to arrive in the mail along with an application for employment there. I hope to join you all in late Spring 98. I feel I already know and love you. Hello, Ellis! I like to know developers with high skills, unfortunately, here, in Brazil there are only a few good developers. I am a developer who program using Visual C++ 4.0 (I only see a beta of release 5!) Like you, I have many skills, but, it is difficult for talented people to find a job in my country, because the companies use later technologies and they want only (bad!!!) Visual Basic developers. I know only a few good developers, like we, that know technologies, C++, MFC, deep oriented object analysis, in other words, people that have creativity, intelligence and technical skills to find a job in USA. Because I am very frustated, I am trying to find a job in United States, where the developer are high value people and the managers are not politics and without knowledge about leading and programing (I hate it!). They did not read books like "Dynamics of Software Development", "Debugging the Development Process", "Rapid Development" and other. Most technical people (here) do not read books and h ave very, very, very bad skills, they know nothing about the most important stuffs, only Visual Basic or PowerBuilder. Next week, I will make an interview at a consulting companie that employe people to work in USA. It is a big consulting companie, and I believe that I will have the job! If you could help me, or if you want to know me, send me a mail. Thanks :)

Dear JR, thank you so much for your Website. Terrific! I discovered it yesterday searching for Natural Hygiene and Raw Food articles. I left a message about the FRUITARIAN RAW FOOD NETWORK AROUND THE WORLD which was established by Rene Beresford 10 years ago in Australia. Rene has been a fruitarian for almost 10 years. I just came back from Australia. What a paradise! I stayed at the Fruitarian Network "head-quarter" which is simply a very welcoming house where Rene lives. People/members of the Network from all over the world come visit him there. Have you heard of him or the Fruitarian Network? Rene produces a quatrerly newsletter which is informative and social, friendly, aiming at bringing like-minded people from all over the world together. It contains articles, letters from members, questions and answers, social contacts, a list of recommended books to read, activities, overseas news and much more. The Fruitarian Network is not a business, for profit or gain. It is voluntary. All work is done as a service to those who are seeking to improve their health and lifestyle. So I spent 5 weeks in the North-Eastern tropical part of Australia. As I said it was a paradise on Earth. I ate fruits all day long, fruits so delicious and unique that no one can even think that the nature may create something awesome like this. Just imagine a fruit which tastes like a soft delicately sweet chocolate mousse with a fresh coconut cream on top of it! It is absolutely awesome! It is called black sapote. Have you tasted it? Or another one called relinia. It tastes like a creamy white pudding with lemonish flavor. There were tens and tens of other fruits like ramputans, jack fruit, durian that I have not heard about. I have been travelling quite a lot, tasted many exotic fruits, but what I have discovered in Australia was beyond my imagination. How can I live now in New York City? Yesterday I went to buy some fruits, because I am on a predominantly fruit diet (90% fresh fruits and 10% fresh vegies). There was almost nothing to choose from! I got so depressed! All those organically grown vegies and fruits looked so miserable to me. "The only solution is to go on a fast", I thought. Yesterday I read all the messages in the guest book, I was quite impressed how many people are interested in the raw food/fruitarian diet. All that I can say that RAW FOOD is THE ONLY SUITABLE DIET FOR HUMANITY. If one wants to stay young, feel young, look young, be disease- and pain-free, then GO ON A RAW FOOD. EDUCATE YOURSELF! HEALTH IS THE MOST PRECIOUS COMMODITY! YOU WON'T HAVE TIME LATER ON! Start gradually, try to incorporate more and more of the raw fruits and vegies into your everyday diet. Expect some detoxification effects, do not be affraid of them, do not treat them. You've been polluting your body for many years and accumulated lots of toxins inside, so let it live free from toxins now! I have been on a raw diet for 5 years. 7 years ago I started with the proper food combining (you know what I am talking about: you are suppose to eat protei ns and carbohydrates separately). By that time I became 190 pounds from excessive dining out (Iam 5'10"). Now I am 130. This is the weight I've been always dreamt about. At the age of 15 after I read a book "The Miracle of Fasting" by Paul Bragg I went on a two weeks fast just for fun. It was in Russia. Then I forgot all about it untill 5 years ago a friend of mine mentioned that book to me. It made so much sense to me. Since then I have been constantly educating myself on this subject. I enjoy my life, I feel and look terrific! Better than when I was 22. My skin is firm and young, shines with health and youth, because it is nourished from inside. I do not use any cosmetics, shampoos or anything on my skin. Skin maintains its natural moisture. I have not been to a doctor's office for 7 years! I am happy and smiling all the time and always look forward to the next day! For those who would like to contact the Fruitarian Network, write or e-mail: THE FRUITARIAN NETWORK AROUND THE WORLD Rene Beresford P.O. Hi, I am also interested in doing a correspondence course with the Life Science Institute, but am having trouble getting them to return my faxes, re accreditation. I don't wish to spend so many resources doing the course, if I am not properly accredited and can gain some respect from the world out there that I would like to help. For instance, do you know if it is a diploma course, or a degree course? Do you think it compares well with, say, a degree in natural medicine from a naturopathic college? Remember, we few who are convinced in this kind of nutrition for health are constantly fighting against allopathic practitioners and a world who believes in modern lifestyles, and we need all the credibility we can get! What are your comments on this? Thanks, and regards Margie Booth

Thank you for your article on the Internet. I was looking for anything that matched the word "mucusless" (ala Arnold Ehret) and this was one of the sites that came up. I am very much interested in an all raw diet but am a little hesitant because of having a family (wife and two daughters) who don't understand about the superior value of raw foods. But I am glad to know that there are others out there who are following this diet and would like to hear more about their experiences and how it has helped them.

For those who are confused about raw foods: they are foods in their natural state. While it is very obvious that processing food devalues it, we generally assume that cooking food is natural and sometimes necessary for proper nutrition. This is a human error. Cooking food degenerates it into useless, if not poisonous, indigestible goo. the enzymes are burned into oblivion and so our bodies have to supply their own enzymes, thus depleting the body. This is why we feel so tired after eating a cooked meal. We are being drained of energy. Raw foods actually supply enzymes, thereby giving the body energy. It is very true and makes sense scientifically. But all one needs to do is try eating all raw for a while and then eat something cooked. You'll feel the difference. But does this sell you on the raw foods lifesyle? Unfortunately, years of cooked food eating, generations of cooked food adoration have taken their greedy toll: We are addicted to cooked foods. we have become slaves to that addiction. Even when reason and experience tell us that cooked food is harmful, we still are attracted to it. We CRAVE it. We feel we must have it. We are compulsive and secretive. We are sneaky and try to fool our reasoning mind with reasons why it's not so bad. It is a struggle for most at first, but once you understand the benefits of eating raw food and the destructiveness of eating cooked, you may never be able to guiltlessly slurp and gobble pizza again (or even a beloved vegetarian tofu stir fry). Eventually you won't crave such degenerated slop, but in the begining such fancys may be there. I am struggling myself in the begining stages of my "enlightenment." As I emerge from the darkness of ignorance and craving, I glimpse the light of freedom every now and then, and that helps me restrain myself from slurping up oodles of degenerated slop. For the good of myself, those who live with me and all those who come in contact with me, I will continue to do battle with the lies and tricks of the mind. I will see them for what th ey are. I now believe that "health" food in general is basicly "transition" food. A way to escape the traditional american diet of burnt carcases, stove top stuffing and "Ho Ho"s. For a period it is acceptable to consume endless bags of health food potato chips, soy milks and organic chocolat bars. But a time may come when it is obvious that this is not true "health food." It is then that the next step will become apparent...

Greetings! I have read your brief description of Pangaia . . . sounds like an interesting place. I have just returned to my parents' place in Los Angeles after a year of traveling in India and Nepal and am considering what to do next. Do you eat all your food raw? Why? (I would buy your book, but can't afford it now.) I have never lived on a commune before or in an arrangement like the one described and am a bit apprehensive. Pangaia sounds like a place where I could "pursue happiness." I am a painter and like to make noisy music and love to work outside in the fields. Please write something back. Thank you. Hi everyone. I have been mostly raw for 3 months and have just commited to 30 days 100% raw and 4 days into it am experiencing many different levels of feeling. What I want to ask is if anybody reading this has had any experience with hernia (inguinal) and if it's possible to heal it by eating raw and fasting (short ones). I got one that is bothersome and all I hear is that surgery is the only way. I certainly hope this is not true!!! Write to me if you have any thoughts or feelings on the subject. Best wishes for freedom

Hey Jay, I just wanted to thank you for your website. New to the raw food diet (30 days on raw fruit). I feel wonderful. Lots of energy. It may not be realistic, but I would like to keep feeling this good. Craving salt though (tomatoes and avocados have been a God send.) It's been helpful hearing about other people's experiences. By the way, I thought your stand-up shit was hilarious, but then, I laugh at everything. You are a great man. Thanks again for your vision. Jon

Hi Your roster looks wonderful however I won't be able to attend. I wrote down the names of a # of books...I will check with my local bookstore I concerned that they are run off esoteric presses. Do you have a list of the publishers and their addresses? Also, will you be taping the lectures and selling them to the public. If so I would be interested. All the best and keep up the great work. i just feel so grateful for being turned on to raw food. it's so wonderful raw food is just wonderful. it's one of the major joys of my life. i just pity people who eat cooked food. here's the truth, and I know you'll probably have trouble imagining it, much less believing it. this is the truth, and I know it's the truth. your body hates cooked food. it truly is panic and torture for your body. the worms in your stomach control what, when, and how much you eat. they do it by causing you pain. the happiness you feel is not a pleasure, it is simply the removal of pain. you call the pain "hunger", but it's their hunger, not yours. the true hunger of your body is never a pain, it's like a polite request. I have fasted right to the point of death, a few days away from death, and i can tell you that there was never any pain at all. you kick the worms out of your stomach and it's easy to go on raw food. your whole life goes to a higher plane of joy. it's utterly wonderful. just find the raw food people in your area and talk to them. that's what sold me. i just give you one story out of many. paul bragg started health food stores in this country. he was a raw fooder. he died at the age of 95. 95. he died from a......he died from a......i say he died from a...................surfing accident. his surf board hit him in the head and he drowned. surfing requires that you lie on your stomach and then jump to your feet in one motion, one jump without going to your knees first. can you do that? you have to do it for every wave, maybe dozens of times in a few hours. could you do that? every day? for fun? at 95? he looked absolutely great, had a reputation with the ladies, etc etc. now buddy, that is real life. cooked food is looking and acting half-dead at 50 and full-dead at 70. i feel like i'm floating thru life. my body has this constant hum of "happy, happy, happy". you never get sick, never get any disease. a friend of mine named dave fleming goes around the country curing all diseases just by helping people go on raw food. i saw his driver's license. it said 45. he looked maybe 20. he hung out with the kids at the beach because they thought he was one of them. imagine that. norman walker was complaining at 105 that he was getting too old to climb up and fix his roof. probably had to quit surfing too. the body happiness, the emotional joy, the mental serenity, and the spiritual clarity are hard to imagine for a cooked food person with the usual several pounds of worms in his body, and in your body. see, they dominate you. they control you. they say "pizza!", and you say, "yes sir." their nature influences your nature. your thoughts are inevitably lower, more evil, and oddly enough, more parasitical. and believe me, your body is actually screaming in its own pain right now. i actually overheard it one time when i ate a cooked cracker for lord's supper/communion. it was like, "oh god help us, he's eating cooked food again" in utter panic. i saw russ whitesel when he was 84 years old. i got an armslength away and really star ed at him because his skin was so totally amazing. i know this is hard to believe, but his skin was exactly like a young baby's skin, moist-looking. when a baby is a year old or so it's not moist anymore, it's dry. his was moist, moist. and of course not the slightest hint of a wrinkle. if you'd dyed his hair, and tucked his throat skin a little, he would easily pass for 18. he would get carded in a bar. he had a 25 year old wife who seemed, you know, content. so why do you eat cooked food? ignorance, that's why. why would anybody trade 95% of their life and joy for nothing, for absolutely nothing. but a few cooked fooders have been exposed to the truth, so there's another reason. it's some combination of stupidity, inertia, herd instinct, internal sabotage, self-hatred, and suicide. i hope you escape. from the worms’ prison. the truth is it’s easy and quick. colloidial copper 702-8965812 and the Beck machine 303-4130345. Or 714-5475169, $140, "PGS-2 Deluxe", cures EVERYTHING in 3 weeks. truth. .

I've lived on San Juan Island for over 25 years, where I own and operate an offset print shop. I have been looking for a winter retreat where I can grow closer to the land and a specific community atmosphere while I create photographic and other story-telling art forms. I have a college degree in Marine./Oceanographic Technology and another in Visual Communications. I live simply and yearn to adapt to a healthier diet while I learn more about myself and the world and people around me. My hobbies are geography, videography, SCUBA diving, and continual learning. I'm interested in finding a place where I feel I belong and where people look forward to my return in October.

I'd like to get involved via the internet. We're a family of 3 raw food vegans living in Hawaii since 1977. Our son SolRay Brilliant Duncan, lifelong vegan, just graduated from high school with honors and athletic awards. I'm a performing artist, actress, musician, director, teacher who has toured plays all over the state: on poetry, health issues, women's history, etc. SolRay's dad is Just Natural Brilliant, whose photo was in Viktor Kulvinskas' book SURVIVAL INTO THE TWENTIETH CENTURY. He founded Animal Liberation around 1970, and got into Natural Hygiene shortly after. I've followed N.H. for over 35 years, had 5 sons, and an interesting life. Aloha and Mahalo for now, from Jym Duncan in Hawaii.

I did not know that he was that old, and did not think that Paul Brag died in a surfing accident. I thought Paul Bragg died in an automobile acciden. I had gone through your essay called 'what is the living foods lifestyles'. I found it very interesting. Here in india I joined some meditation classes in an orginigation called SIDHA SAMADHI YOGA. They even taught us how to eat raw food and the advantages of eating raw food. I just want to suggest you people that how this raw food is going to help human body in giving more energy in terms of calories and what for is it useful. Try to analise the whole thing starting with what kind of problems and deseases that a human being is facing and how this raw food eating is helpful. I am not a regular visitor to this site, but still I will be expecting some anlitical essays on this topic.

I was happy to find information on the net about natural hygiene. Most people haven't even heard of it! My sister introduced it to me and I have been changing my eating habits for about two months. I was a vegetarian before I met my husband, and then began eating meat again for convience. About a year ago, I was so depressed that I was on anti-depressants. I got so fed up with people telling me to take a pill to make everything better, so I stopped taking the medication and eventually stopped eating meat. I took some recommended herbs and now I am following Fit for Life and I've never felt so good! I've lost weight and definetly have more energy. I'm excited to have someone to talk to about natural hygiene, as I am very new at this & need some support! (My husband hates nearly every vegetable). Well, glad I found you & hope to hear from you! One day later, and I just spent another two hours here. One of your 'guests' wrote about "anopsology" and I found myself needing to know what on earth he was talking about. The more I read, the more I realize I need to change my eating ... and my thinking about what I eat. The cultural, long-standing comfort-rituals centered around cooking are dangerous, but they remain seductive as well. Thank you for creating such a well-designed, informative site. I'll be back often.

So glad to see other people out there doing the raw food thing! In Chicago, we have Karen's Fresh Corner, a raw food restaurant run by raw foods expert Karen Calabrese. However, none of the people I know here are doing this except me! My friends thing it is interesting, but don't do it themselves, although they like the food I make for them! I'd love to hear from others who are doing this! Thanks!!

JR - I can relate to your feline story. My husband and I have 3 cats but they're still fairly young yet (approx. 11 years). I never wanted any pets because I don't like to have to part with them EVER. But we acquired our 3 cats all in one day -- 3 stray kittens from a stray mother cat and their "grandmother" was also a stray. We used to call their grandmother "Big Grey." I appreciate them EVERYDAY and every moment they're around. They are sooooo loving! I just hope they have a lot of healthy years to go. Thanks for the great story! Wow! You have quite a web page. I've already book marked it and hope to return to read more. I've been reading alot about raw food/fruitarian diets over the past few years. I was a die hard Fit for Lifer for about 2 years until I started cycling competatively. I often felt weak and unable to train for 4-5 hours at a time. It's been a few years since I quit racing. I've come to the conclusion that racing and training are not healthy for my body. I felt old and tired, tired, tired. What I hope to achieve is a mostly raw foods diet with enough energy to do the things I enjoy. Your offer words of wisdom and gentle guidance. Thanks, Heather

My journey to health through raw food pales by comparison; I was able to avoid surgery and cured my hernia and symptoms of other degenerative diseases. I discovered natural hygiene about 8 years ago, and have sinced strayed. At least since that time I have KNOWN what is right, and have made my choices considering that, and not what doctors and governments tell me. I returned to college this past year, and am currently taking a career and lifestyle management course as an elective. I capitalized on the opportunity to do a presentation on the subject of natural hygiene which I know very well. I just want to thank the producers of this page for the excellent work, because it is not that easy to find literature that I can reference for my paper, and I can't very well base the whole thing on good old Harvey and Marilyn's works. I'll just sum up a little story for you about the year I discovered natural hygiene. I was in the early stages of pregnancy, and thinking of my unborn baby, I figured it was as good a time as any to start such a program. I began to lose weight, and then maintained my weight, and near the end I gained some. By my due date I had gained 18 lbs altogether. My doctor kept telling me that I was going to have a sick, small baby, and if I didn't start drinking milk he might not even survive! Well, I didn't argue with him, because that's pointless, but I didn't change either because I felt great. My first question was, when that baby was born (not "is it a boy or girl") was " Is he big?" The doctor reluctantly replied "he's a good size" a good size was 8 lbs 1.5 oz, and the biggest of my 4 children. He was healthy and strong, walked and talked much earlier than the rest of them and NEVER got sick. He was breastfed for 2.25 years and his first foods were mushed up fresh fruit, the LAST food your supposed to introduce (because they like it, and wont eat the library paste ((infant cereal)) after they have it. My goal in my class is to return to natural hygiene, and despite that I got VERY sick this time in detoxification, I'm getting there. Thanks again, and glad your here.

Nice to see a website dedicated to this subject. I've been on and off raw food for 10 years, and have just been re-converted by Arlin, Dini & Wolfe's book, "Nature's First Law: The Raw Food Diet". These guys are fanatics, but their research and commitment are both commendable. Raw food has reduced my sleep hours, tripled my energy, heightened my mental acuity, produced 6 over 6 (near-perfect) vision (6 months ago I was told I'd soon need glasses), reduced arthritic pain dramatically, lowered my ESR (key measurement of inflammation) from 42 to 12, begun to clear my psoriasis, given my skin a nice luminescent quality, improved my mood, and (very importantly) eliminated washing of dishes. My only slight problem at present is weightloss: I've lost 6 kg, and falling. However all the best raw food theorists say that the weight loss starts to reverse itself once the elimination and healing process has peaked. So I wait in anticipation of this. All in all, raw food appears to be Man's natural evolutionary d iet, and it is little wonder that we thrive on it.

I found your website very helpful, although I am not sure about sprouting yet! But I am looking for a better way of eating and living. Any suggestions on where to go about finding out about what foods are good for what (medicinal and daily requirements). I am just new at this and will ask lots of stupid questions. But I don't mind asking stupid questions because it is better than not starting at all. I am out of the gate and running! Thank you! Any ideas on why I am allergic to bananas? I have awful abdomen pain and diareha if I eat them.

i have to admit. i haven't been signing the quest book much. i have been on the web for days learning about this great new thing and trying to figure out, which i have, the difference between raw foods, fruitarian, natural hygeine....i come to your pages and links many times a day. this si a wonderful revelation for me. a resounding, revirberation truth. thanks for all the great info. i'm still learning, exploring and incorporating all of this in my life already. my cupboards don't need much of an overhaul because i've been eating organic whole foods with alot of raw for years, but tend to cook alot in winter. just wanted to say hello again and thanks. elizabeth

i know you'll have an answer for this so i'll ask it. what about the need for cooked items in order to stay warm in the winter. i live in a very cold area of NH and can't imagine eating cold food in the winter. according to macrobiotics, of wich i incorporate in my diet, we shouldn't eat foods outside of our area.....ie. grapefruits in the winter in NH. hoping for some enlightment from your view. sincerely e

I'm updating my 1st entry because I'm new on the internet and I goofed up my first message. Even though I've been a veggie for 20 years and on and off of raw foods for same amount of time, this is the first I've heard of "Instincto Therapy." I'd like feedback from anyone who has read about it or practices instincto therapy. Maybe I should read some of the books before judging it, but since they say we crave what is in our bloodstream, unless I'm eating a "clean, live, raw" food, I don't think I'd trust MY instincts. Anyway, this is a great Web Page!!

This updates my previous entry, which has an INCORRECT e-mail address. I have been a vegetarian for 7 years. 2 years ago I developed an auto-immune condition known as Pemphigus Vulgaris. My immune system thinks that my skin is an alien invader, and attacks/dissolves it. I used and still use drugs as I experiment to determine what enabled this condition to develop and take steps to correct it. I have investigated and tried many alternative therapies. I have determined that certain foods cause the condition to get worse, and am investigating why. It appears to be a combination of several factors which are cross linked: Mineral imbalances causing protein reactions, allergies, and hormone imbalances. All of these factors are linked to Phenolics (molecules in foods that provide immuno protection for the plant, taste, aroma, etc) and that is what I am investigating now. I have determined that it does not matter what label science has given to an illness, they are all routed in the same cause: eating a diet wh ich stresses our bodies, and creating conditions which increase physical stress in our world. My recent research has lead to the desire to start going raw in order to rebuild my body. Toward that end, my wife and I replaced our microwave oven with a dehydrator, and now soak, puree and ferment about 75% of our food. I look to this Web page for information. I am not interested in being included on a rambling discussion group, nor discussing theology, philosophy, etc. We are not activists, but seek to live our lives actively and in accordance with our principles. If there is one message I spread, it is Empowerment. I regularly see, meet with and talk to many very ill people who have lost their personal power. I demonstrate to them that it is possible to regain personal power and heal one's body. Our personal religious affiliation is Essene (which advocates a raw vegetarian diet as one of it's guiding principles). Love, Steve Shapiro

For the past year now I have been trying to convert to a raw food diet entirely. I have given up red meat (which I found was really easy), and I only eat chicken and fish (which I do very rarely). I find that my biggest obstacle is my friends and family and especially my boyfriend. He thinks he knows absolutely everything about nutrition and that what I'm trying to do is crazy. We often get into many an argument over this. For a while I went completely raw and I felt wonderful. But peer presure got the best of me and I went back to cooked food. But I am slowly comming back to raw food and am starting to feel good again. It is really great to find support in your homepages. This is the only place where anyone understands. Keep up the great work! Jen

Pangaia sounds as close to community Eden as humanity can achieve, especially if your idealistic goals come to full fruition. I'm sure living in Hawaii helps create the sense of natural fulfillment you expressed in the community description. I would give up all these trivial amenities to live the lifestyle of Pangaia, inspiration is all that I need. Reading Zephyrs book should help toward that end. Keep the faith, Daniel

I first read about NH 10 years ago in Unlimited Power. I was interested, but never did anything. I never forgot that I had read it though. Now, after my doctor told me to lose weight and get my cholesterol levels under control, I went back to the book and put the ideas to work. I feel better, and after less than 3 months, I lost atleast 26 pounds. My doctor wanted to know how I did it. Recently I read Fit For Life, and I am starting Fit For Life II now.

I was introduced to NH through Tony Robbins. I discovered that NH as the prime solution to my health problems, including coming off a serious drug and alcohol addiction. I've been clean and sober for over 6 years, and am now brought to my most powerful demon, compulsive overeating. I've been attending A.A. for 6 yrs.,and have begun to attend Overeaters Anonymous. The addictive mind/personality is the most insideous, diabolical foe imaginable. However, with the strength of the creator and the wisdom of hygiene, I will overcome!

JR, Just read your hot-off-the-press bio. Fascinating...and inspirational. You've sure come a long way, Pal. What's possibly even better, is that you have a long way to go, just like all of us, but now you seem to recognize the excitement in perceiving that this "long way to go" is the same challenge of life we all have; that the challenge is the greatest blessing of all; that in facing and dealing directly with this personal scenario of the future (rather than always trying to avoid or escape it), we are virtually assured of growth; and the rush that comes with the increased awareness involved in the PROCESS. Keep up the good work, which you probably will, because you apparently now know it's about the only way to have genuine fun existing on this planet. Have you thought of filling in the details of what your bio so cogently outlines...to write it all down and publish it as a book? With the right publisher it could undoubtably be a best seller...and just think of all the folks you might inspire in the process. An auto- biography with an appropriately racey title. Seems like you've got your cross-hairs on the real target, JR; maybe it's not so much actually reaching one's goal in life that counts... it just might be far more in the actual PROCESS...the PROCESS of moving towards a more legitimately fruitfull and productive life. And the winning kind of PROCESS is no more than taking more steps ahead than back. In the journey of life you appear to have finally found the right map, taken some of the better turns to get on the truly scenic and enjoyable roads...the roads that go where it's worth being. Take care...and keep up the inspirational efforts. God bless, Ric the only place to have any REAL fun in this trip called life

Great site. I'll be back often. Another great veggie site I visit often and recommend is VegSource, at http://www.vegsource.com. A lot of nice folks over there and lots of humor! Thanks for this wonderful site.

Your broadly informative set of links to information, recipies and testimonials is the best legacy that the Boston centre could provide- to bad you're no longer there, I quite liked the old building. Yet the south is the ideal place to be, and I hope to able to visit you there. My introductions to Ann and Viktoras will always rate as among the most impressionable in my life, and I will always acknowledge their wisdom whenever I harvest my trays. Light, Love and Power to you all-

I have been raw for 8 of the last 10 years. Sorry I ate cooked vegan for those 2 years-but I found out that my body starts to go diabetic on that diet. It all cleared up on 100% raw food. For the last 3 years have been a fruitarian (sweet and non-sweet fruits, and nuts and seeds). Recently have been eating a little salad. New list owner of veg-raw mailing list, replacing Michael. Also like the instincto ideas. Your body is able to tell you what and how much to eat. We tend to let our head get in the way.

Hello, I'm writing from Austin, Tx. I came accross Natural Hygiene about the time I decided that I no longer wanted to abuse cocaine. Hygienic practice enabled me to stop using cocaine and marijuana, and eventually, coupled with Alcoholics Anonymous, even alcohol! Now, Six years later, I find myseld clean and sober, but seemingle unable to stick with a raw food diet. Initally, I lost 90 lbs. and felt great most of the time. But after an inexplicable "knowing" that I would "go back" to sick eating practices, I proceeded to gain 100 lbs. I've lost some of the weight, but my hygienic practice is on the rocks. I am being treated for clinical depression, and am taking Zoloft. Sorry if I've whined too much. I would like to hear from anyone who has had similar experience. Thanks

I gotta say, it was spooky reading your page. It was like reading a web site I just haven't written yet. I too am fascinated by swamp coolers (I'm not exactly sure why) and have thought of doing stand-up. Hopefully, I'll get my page going soon and then when you visit mine, perhaps the same thing that I just experienced will happen to you. Who knows? Tom "This one's for the ladies" Steffora

When I first heard about being raw, I thought it was kind of strange. But then, I read all of the information on these web pages and wastotally inspired. The more i thought about it the more sense it made.I realized I was feeding my hamster better food than I was eating. So I started raw the beginning of November. It actually wasn't too hard tostick to. I have cheated this week.....but, I plan to give up my addiction for good next week. I would encourage anyone to do the same.Your body will thank you. Leslie
