I became vegan 6 years, almost 7, ago when my father died of a diet related disease - colon cancer. My mother passed away 18 months ago from a diet related disease also - liver dysfunction (and she never drank!). She could have helped herself with diet change, but that was not to be. I have dabbled with raw foodism for a couple of summers and have gradually made our diet at least 75% raw and mine borders on 90%. My husband is a mountain climber (summited Mt. Rainier two weeks ago) and we have a 15 year old son and a 13 year old daughter. Both of whom are rabid sports participants. They are both dyslexic and that accounts for their coordination and active lives. They know they do well in sports. I truly believe they also do better than most severe dyslexics in school because of their diet. We are also 7 year members of EarthSave. A vegetarian group based on the book "Diet for A New America" by John Robbins. The month potlucks are a great way to meet others of the same habits and beliefs.
