Hello to Everyone,

I have been following the list for a few months now and have finally felt compelled to write. First I must thank everyone for all your thought provoking emails. We live in a small town and it is hard to have a conversation on something other than, hockey, movies/TV, cooked food and the weather. So for a stay at home Mom you are all saviours.

Back in 1998 while surfing late one evening I stumbled across the N.F.L site, I stayed up until the early hours of the morning reading all the personal stories of transformation into the raw food lifestyle. At that time I had never heard of anything like it. I was soooooooo excited I couldn t sleep and the next day talked my husbands ear off about it. He agreed (because he s such a supportive guy J ) to give it a try. We lasted 4 months at 60-70-% raw. The results were fantastic!

We both lost our excess weight, we had so much energy that instead of lounging on the couch after dinner and going to bed at 10-11 p.m., we were physically and mentally active till at least midnight every night. Our mental perception of the world became positive, generally we were all around happier, much more loving, and felt on top of the world. (Just to let you know, my husband is a carpenter, he builds houses, it is very physical work, he was running circles around the other guys on the job site {a real meat and potato crowd}.)

But alas, then everything changed,&.. I became pregnant,& the cravings kicked in and I slowly returned to my old ways of eating, while proceeding to gain 60lbs! I was thrilled to be pregnant but at 5 months we made a quick decision and within 4 weeks we had packed up from Vancouver and moved back across the country to my home town in Ontario (Canada), which I swore I would never move back to and then all of a sudden, here I was&.. Lets eat!!!

There were a lot of influencing factors to this, business hopes, closer to family, financially easier to survive in a small town etc., I won t get into all the details but it was very emotional.

On July 12, 2000 our daughter Vivian was born at home, and our life changed again. So now 8 months later we are trying to get back on track, pull our socks up and get out of this depressive rut we have found ourselves in. We love our daughter and she is our sunshine but lately all the other factors in our life seem to be depressing.

So a month ago off to the library I went and we reread Fit for Life. Three weeks ago we started a 5-day vegetable juice fast, while also eating fruit. We made it through but both found it very hard. The first 2 days the hunger was over powering, then that subsided but we were both lacking in energy, exhausted actually. We kept waiting for things to change but it never happened, we broke the fast with a tossed salad and a baked potato with salsa. Tasted wonderful. For the last 2 weeks we have been 70-80% raw but we are still dragging our butts. It is getting discouraging and I am having major temptations. We can t figure out why things are not improving, as far as we can remember we are eating better than we did before but getting worse results. We are going to do another 5 day fast starting this Monday so hopefully we will see results this time. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Thank you so much for taking the time to listen to our story.

Sue, Rappi and Vivian
